A cold spell has floated down onto the city. My new favourite drink is Winter Warmer at the New Orleans Cafe in Thamel (free WiFi), it’s hot lemon, ginger and honey, and i could drink it all day, although it makes my stomach too acid after a couple.
The Maoist siege of the regional Himal Media newspaper offices for Kathmandu Post etc has entered its fourth day. The prime minister – formerly offering mutterings of outrage on behalf of press freedom is now strangely silent on the issue. Poor guy is holding his party together with the thinnest thread and attempting a diplomatic non-commitment. Misguided, I think. Not sure how much coverage the issue is getting outside the country, but attacking the press is not usually the way to make friends.
